What is a Communications Dispatcher?

A Communications Dispatcher provides critical support to the public, police officers and fire fighters within Cornwall, Stormont and Glengarry. This position is responsible for dispatching police and fire incidents.  Communications Dispatchers are generally the first line of contact in an emergency and must make quick and critical decisions under considerably stressful conditions. This position also involves answering incoming calls on all administrative, emergency and 9-1-1 telephone lines.  Communications Dispatchers are responsible for the operation of various computerized communication consoles which receive and relay information. This position operates on 12 hour shifts, operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.  

Recruitment Process

The following is the list of stages in our hiring process:

1) Oral French Proficiency Test 

2) CritiCall Testing - a computerized test to measure typing and multi-tasking abilities.

3) Interview

4) Background Investigation & Security Clearance

5) Psychological test and interview with a psychologist.
