CORNWALL COMMUNITY POLICE SERVICES BOARD ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF DESIGNATE:

Andre Rivette, Chair of the Cornwall Community Police Services Board, today announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Danny Aikman as Chief Designate commencing January 1, 2018 and Chief of Police as of January 1, 2019 following the retirement of Chief Daniel Parkinson.

Deputy Chief Aikman commenced his policing career with the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) on January 1, 1981.

Over the course of a nearly thirty-seven year career in policing, he has held a number of key positions within CCPS and also served for two years as a seconded instructor at the Ontario Police College. He was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police in 2003.

Deputy Chief Aikman has worked closely with several community organizations throughout his career and has served on the Board of Directors for numerous community agencies including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cornwall and District. He was honoured to Chair the Board of Directors for Maison Baldwin House and the United Way/Centraide of S.D. & G.

In addition to studying Business Administration at the University of Ottawa, he has completed training in police leadership at the Ontario Police College, the Canadian Police College, Dalhousie University, and in 2004 attended the Police Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Deputy Chief Aikman has been awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal for twenty and thirty years of service. In recognition of his accomplishments in policing, he was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of Police Forces in 2011 and in 2012 was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Deputy Chief Aikman is a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police for whom he currently serves on the Board of Directors.

An avid golfer, Deputy Chief Aikman is a Past President of the Cornwall Golf and Country Club.

He and his wife Constance have been blessed with two children, Shelby and Joel and are now the proud Mamie and Papi to granddaughter, Ella.

The Cornwall Police Services Board is a five-member civilian body established under Provincial legislation that is responsible for governing the Cornwall Community Police Service and for the recruiting and appointment of the Chief and Deputy Chiefs of Police.
