covid19 service updates

On December 31, 2019, a cluster of cases of pneumonia was reported in Wuhan, China, and the cause has been confirmed as a new coronavirus that has not previously been identified in humans. This virus is now known as COVID-19 (previously called 2019 Novel Coronavirus or 2019-nCoV).

There are now confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been identified in many countries, including Canada. The current situation is evolving. New information is becoming available daily and a clearer picture is being formed as this information is analyzed by provincial, national and international health agencies.

The safety of our community is a top priority for the Cornwall Police Service (CPS), as well as the safety of our employees. As such, the CPS has activated our internal Pandemic Plan and created a COVID-19 Command Group to administer our response accordingly. The situation is being closely monitored, with members of the Command Group communicating regularly with health officials, as well as all levels of government.

The Cornwall Police Service (CPS) will be re-opening the lobby of our headquarters to the public on June 22, 2020.

On March 17, 2020, the Ontario Government made a declaration of a state of emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, to help contain the spread of COVID-19. At that time, all CPS facilities were closed to the public.

Throughout this pandemic, the CPS has remained committed to making the safety of Cornwall our top priority. With the gradual re-opening of our facilities, we want to continue to ensure the safety of our community and our employees.  As such, we have implemented a number of new safety measures for all visitors attending our headquarters, located at 340 Pitt Street:

  • Visitors will be screened prior to entry.
  • Six feet markers have been placed on the floor to remind people to practice physical distancing.
  • Hand sanitizer stations have been set up at the main entrance to aid proper hand hygiene.
  • Visitors are asked to where a mask, if possible, when attending our building.
  • To ensure physical distancing, our lobby will be limited to six people at a time. All other visitors will be required to wait outside while practicing physical distancing until a visitor exists the building.
  • The CPS will not have any washrooms available to the public.

We encourage everyone to continue to do their part to limit the spread of COVID-19. Citizens are reminded to only visit our building if necessary, schedule appointments when requested/required and adhere to physical distancing guidelines. We are reminding the public that many CPS services continue to be available on our website at
